"5 New Apps to Enhance Reading, Writing, and ELA Instruction
A monthly showcase of the latest mobile apps for educators and students. This month's roundup features spelling, reading, and annotation apps to assist with English Language Arts instruction. "
"Word Generation is a research-based vocabulary program for middle school students designed to teach words through language arts, math, science, and social studies classes. The program employs several strategies to ensure that students learn words in a variety of contexts."
The Smarter Balanced Field Test will take place between March 18 and June 6, 2014. Students in grades three through eight and grade eleven will be assessed via computer in English-language arts and mathematics. A small sample of grade nine and grade ten students will also participate in the Field Test.
http://www.e-learningforkids.org is a great site that provides free e-courses for kids all around the world. This site has engaging and interactive courses for kids in online safety, computer skills such as using Google, typing, and core subjects like language arts, math, and science. Most of the courses are for elementary school-aged children, and involve dynamic avatars, and are highly interactive.

"In order to reach the levels of all learners, educators need to carefully tailor their lessons to the needs of all the learners in their classroom. This is referred to as UDL (Universal Design for Learning). This video does a better job of explaining it...
So as part of an assignment for grad school, and because I teach in a school that is 1:1 with iPads in grades 9-12, I thought I would give a list of 10 apps that aides in UDL instruction, particularly reading comprehension for our current book, The Odyssey.
